International Max Planck Research School for Intelligent Systems

Since its launch in 2017, the International Max Planck Research School for Intelligent Systems (IMPRS-IS) has established itself as a leading doctoral program through a unique partnership between the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems (MPI-IS), the University of Tübingen, and the University of Stuttgart. This collaboration brings together three of Germany's premier research institutions, combining the world-class research environment of the Max Planck Institute with the academic and teaching excellence of two renowned universities. This integrated partnership gives IMPRS-IS doctoral researchers access to resources, faculty, and interdisciplinary expertise across all three institutions, providing them with a strong foundation in machine learning, robotics, and computer vision.

Currently, more than 300 doctoral researchers from over 45 nationalities are pursuing their doctorates through IMPRS-IS. To date, 78 scholars have graduated, expanding a global network of researchers. In the most recent admissions cycle, the program saw a record 797 completed applications from 74 countries. 

Beyond scientific guidance, IMPRS-IS offers extensive support to doctoral researchers, hosting over 50 workshops and training sessions annually. In addition to scientific training, it offers sessions on topics such as inclusivity, work-life balance, mental well-being, and intercultural competence. IMPRS-IS is committed to creating a supportive, inclusive environment where all scholars can thrive both academically and personally. The program is also the official doctoral program of Cyber Valley, reinforcing IMPRS-IS’s role as a nexus for collaboration, innovation, and knowledge-sharing in intelligent systems.
