Bernhard Schölkopf meets French President Emmanuel Macron

Paris – Bernhard Schölkopf, one of the leading machine learning scientists in the world and Director of the Empirical Inference Department at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Tübingen, was invited to attend a dinner at the Élysée Palace with French President Emmanuel Macron. The scientist is in Paris to attend the Global Forum on AI for Humanity which takes place at the Academy of Sciences at the Institut de France. The program committee members had the honor of being invited to the official residence of the President of the French Republic on Tuesday evening.

The Global Forum on AI for Humanity is the result of a close collaboration between France and Canada in the joint development of the International Panel on Artificial Intelligence (IPAI), which aims to promote the responsible development of AI-based on human rights, integration, diversity, and innovation. Leading scientists in the field of AI, the life sciences, environmental sciences and social sciences, humanities and engineering as well as innovators, economic and public figures, political decision-makers and representatives of civil society work together to launch a human-centered and ethical approach to artificial intelligence based on human rights, democratic values, the rule of law, the free market, freedom of press and access to information for all.

The Global Forum on AI for Humanity began Monday October 28 and ran several workshops and plenary sessions on topics such as “Future of work and economic impacts of AI”, “Data governance: ethical, political & legal challenges” or “Trustworthy AI: cybersecurity, safety, privacy, intelligibility of AI techniques”. On Wednesday, October 30, the Forum continues with topics such as “AI & Human values: inequalities, biases, fairness, representation of minorities, gender balance“ or “AI for Humanity”. The three-day event will end with an Address of President Emmanuel Macron.
