Joint European Disruptive Initiative (JEDI) invites scientists to join the fight against COVID-19

Founded in 2019, the Joint European Disrupticve Initiative (JEDI) is a group of 3,700 leading European scientists from 23 countries. Bernhard Schölkopf, Director at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems and head of the Empirical Inference Department in Tübingen, is a member of the initiative's Scientific Committee. JEDI's principle aim is to draw on the innovative strength of the European researrch community to find answers to the pressing challenges society faces. 

The recently launched COVID-19 grand challenge is the latest in the JEDI initiative's series of Tech Challenges, which take a purpose-driven approach to developing breakthrough innovations in the fields of environment and energy, healthcare, digital technology, and new frontiers (space and oceans). With this particular challenge, scientists are called upon to screen enormous molecular libraries against the novel coronavirus's protein targets. Results will be cross-correlated to determine a “high potential” list of unprecedented quality, allowing a fast track to clinical testing.
