Michael Black awarded 2013 Helmholtz Prize

„Matrix Reloaded“ and „What Dreams May Come“ are movies showing fascinating visual effects – both have won the Sci Tech Academy Awards. These effects were made possible, in part, by a software created in 1993, which since then has had an impact and is still widely used in academy and industry. This work calculating the optical flow has stood the "test of time" and therefore one of the ICCV Helmholtz Prizes for 2013 was awarded to Michael J. Black, Managing Director of the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems. Twenty years ago the software has laid a fundament for a still ongoing research field. ICCV (International Conference for Computer Vision) is the top international conference in the field of computer vision. It takes place biannually, recently from December 1st to 8th in Sydney, Australia. Original Paper: Black, M.
